Lahaina is on the western side of the island of Maui, a historic whaling town that used to be the capital of the Hawaiian kingdom and is still a place to immerse yourself in the history and culture of Hawaii. Time spent at a Lahaina timeshare will mean days of warm weather, green foliage, spectacular beaches and even some whale watching.
During the early 19th century, Lahaina was the capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom and a common port for whaling ships plying the Pacific. When you venture out from your Lahaina timeshare, you can visit many historic places when you take a stroll down Front Street, where famous people such as the author of Moby Dick, Herman Melville, once walked. The Lahaina Historic Trail runs along some of the 55 acres designated as historic sites in this city, and on the Trail you can see sights like the oldest living Banyan tree on the island and the old U.S. Seamen’s Hospital.
Many of the activities are as enjoyable for families with children as they are for adults. Snorkeling and scuba diving are two of the most popular activities on the island and provide hours of entertainment whether you know how to when you arrive or take a class offered by a school or resort.
Ka'anapali Beach is just north of the city and home to many of its resorts. A miles-long walking trail stretches along the beach, giving you plenty of places to choose from when you want to settle in for a beach day, and amazing scenery if you enjoy a morning or evening run. Black Rock, (Pu'u Keka'a) at the beach's far northern end, is home to a nightly ceremony honoring the last chief of Maui. According to legend, the chief once proved his spirit's power by leaping from the rock during a ritual, and now cliff jumpers dive off the rock each night to honor his action and the ancestors.
Even though the whale hunting in Lahaina has ended, the winter months are still prime time to set sail and see humpbacked whales swimming on their migration routes near the island. Similar beach and boat tours occur year-round at sunset when the light here on the west coast of the island is especially beautiful. A Lahaina timeshare near the ocean will give you spectacular views before you head to the restaurants or bars for an evening.
Golfing is another popular sport, with championship-level golf courses located throughout the Lahaina area. The shopping and art galleries on Front Street are another major draw for visitors wanting to take a little of Maui home with them.
Like many places in Hawaii, Lahaina gets most of its visitors not when its weather is best, but when other places' weather is at its worst. Winter break and the surrounding weeks are the busiest on the island despite being in the heart of the rainy season, but Spring and Fall see a major decline in visitors so you can often find great deals and few crowds at the most popular locations. In summer, travel picks up again though not as much as it is in the winter months.
With a Lahaina timeshare, you'll be immersed in both the modern and historic spirit of the region. This beautiful city is rich with Hawaiian history and culture and places to make memories on your own adventures.
